Postdoc Researchers
Dr. Mary (Maria) Soukalopoulou holds a Ph.D. in Applied and Theoretical Linguistics from A.U.Th., where her doctoral research focused on the experimental investigation and pedagogical applications of aspect in L1/L2 Greek. She further augmented her academic pursuits as a visiting doctoral scholar at the University of Cologne. She also holds an MSc in Computer Assisted Language Learning from the University of Manchester (2005). Her BAs in Primary Education (2008) and in Mediterranean Studies, majoring in Linguistics (2003), were conferred by the University of the Aegean. Currently, she is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Linguistics, School of Philology, A.U.Th., under the supervision of Prof. A. Revithiadou. Her research project aims to explore how linguistically informed approaches on the teaching of grammar can facilitate L1/L2 learning.
With over a decade of experience as a primary education teacher, Dr. Soukalopoulou seamlessly integrates her theoretical knowledge into practical applications. She has also contributed to academia as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Western Macedonia, offering her expertise to the Departments of Psychology and Primary Education.
Dr. Soukalopoulou’s research contributions extend to projects related to the education of immigrant and repatriate students, particularly in the development of innovative e-learning environments and teaching materials such as The 7 Keys of the Dragon for heritage languages (Education of Immigrant and Repatriate Students, A.U.Th., Department of Linguistics, http://www.diapolis.auth.gr; Funding IDs: 85705, 86040, 86041). She has received grants and awards, including the “European Language Label” in 2013 for being a member of the team that constructed an e-learning game-like environment for teaching Albanian and Russian.
Her scholarly achievements include publications in volumes and journals, focusing on morphological processing and investigations into the Greek perfective aspect, as well as the teaching of aspects of grammar.
