PhD Candidates

Angelos Loukas is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Linguistics at the School of Philology of A.U.Th. In his doctoral dissertation, he examines the phenomenon of coalescence at a cross-linguistic level through the lens of Gradient Harmonic Grammar, focusing specifically on cases where coalesced and non-coalesced forms coexist within the same language. His research is funded by the H.F.R.I. (3rd Call for Scholarships for Ph.D. candidates). He holds an MA in Theoretical Linguistics and a BA in Greek Philology with a Linguistics specialization, both from A.U.Th. During his MA, he was a visiting student at Leipzig University (01.10.2018-31.12.2018, Erasmus+ Placement).

He has participated with oral presentations at various conferences (e.g., Annual Meeting of the Department of Linguistics – AMGL, Fonologi i Norden – FiNO, International Conference on Greek Linguistics ‒ ICGL) and has published at conference proceedings. He has contributed to the organization of conferences (e.g., AMGL) and has also undertaken the teaching assistance of an undergraduate Linguistics course (05/2022-06/2022).

His research interests focus primarily on phonology, its interaction with morphology, phonological variation, and the affixation of subsegmental and suprasegmental phonological elements.
